Plymouth newcomers, The Native, are taking on a heavy subject in their first official single, ‘Chasing Highs’. It might be the dense, punky opening moments of the track that hit you first, but it’s a lyrical heaviness that really stays with you here. “You don’t often hear about events like this happening in our hometown, especially with someone at such a young age,” says frontman Charlie Noordewier on the track’s inspiration: the drug overdose of girl who lived local to the band. The five-piece contract their lyrics with a dreamy, atmospheric track that balances catchy, poppy moments with a love for overdriven guitars.
